Supreme Court Rejects Dispute Over Pennsylvania Mail-In Ballots

The U.S. Supreme Court declined to review a challenge from civil and voting rights organizations seeking to overturn Pennsylvania’s requirement that mail-in ballots include a handwritten date on the outer envelope. The 3rd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals upheld the rule, citing its legality despite its minimal purpose in verifying ballot timing. Plaintiffs argued it led to the disenfranchisement of voters, especially seniors. However, the Court sided with those defending the requirement, which aims to ensure election integrity, dismissing concerns of non-compliance under the Civil Rights Act.
