CEO Of Canada’s Second-Largest Company Backs Trump’s Tariffs

The CEO of Shopify, Tobi Lutke, criticized Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau for not preventing a trade war with the U.S., following President Trump’s executive order imposing 25% tariffs on Canada. Trump’s move was in response to Canada’s failure to address issues like fentanyl trade and illegal immigration. Lutke argued that Canadians support Trump’s demands, even if unpopular, and warned that the tariffs would devastate small businesses. He also condemned Trudeau’s retaliatory tariffs as ineffective. Lutke, Canada’s wealthiest citizen, believes that leadership should prioritize doing what’s right over popularity. With Canada being heavily reliant on U.S. trade, the tariffs could severely impact the Canadian economy.
