Panel Warns Of ‘Deep Flaws’ in Secret Service, Demands ‘Fundamental Reform’

An independent panel investigating the July assassination attempt on Donald Trump in Butler, Pennsylvania, revealed that the Secret Service has “deep flaws” that contributed to the attack. The panel called for urgent “fundamental reform” of the agency, citing “numerous mistakes” and deeper systemic issues. It criticized the lack of critical thinking and unclear security ownership, pointing to deficiencies in leadership and planning during the rally. The panel warned that without reform, similar incidents could happen again. It recommended new leadership with outside experience and a renewed focus on the agency’s core protective mission. This report comes as Trump nominated Sean Curran, head of his personal security detail, to lead the Secret Service, praising his leadership during the July attack. Trump also nominated Andrew F. Puzder as the next U.S. ambassador to the European Union.
