Leavitt Swats Down CNN Reporter Asking About Elon Musk

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt faced questions Monday about Elon Musk’s status as a special government employee and his security clearance. While she confirmed Musk is a special government employee who follows federal laws, she was unsure about his security clearance or whether he passed a background check. CNN later reported that Musk had been granted a top-secret security clearance. Musk, known for his leadership at SpaceX, had previously criticized the Biden administration for delaying the return of two stranded astronauts, Butch Wilmore and Suni Williams, from space. In a social media post, Musk claimed that President Trump personally requested his assistance to bring the astronauts home. Additionally, Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy were initially appointed to lead the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), though Ramaswamy later withdrew to run for governor of Ohio.
