A tragic plane crash near the Pesquería River in García, Nuevo León, claimed the life of journalist and TV host Débora Estrella on September 20, 2025. The light aircraft, registration XB-BGH, crashed, killing Estrella and pilot Bryan Leonardo Ballesteros Argueta. Hours earlier, Estrella had shared a photo of the plane on Instagram.
Her ex-husband, journalist José Luis García, unknowingly reported on the crash as part of his routine news coverage, posting “Light aircraft crashes” without knowing Estrella was on board. Social media quickly connected her to the tragedy, prompting García to delete the post and remain silent publicly.
Estrella, 43, was a respected host of Telediario Matutino in Monterrey since 2018, with collaborations at Milenio TV and Channel 6. A passionate aviation enthusiast, she admired those in the field.
Her 15-year relationship with García began in Monterrey, where they worked for rival networks. Married for ten years, their private life showed moments of joy and companionship on social media. They divorced amicably in 2020, emphasizing mutual respect.
In 2019, Estrella praised García’s spirit. He later reflected on their peaceful separation, noting the divorce was finalized quickly and amicably.
Though rumors followed, García maintained their split was due to different paths—not new relationships. His past with Estrella is now overshadowed by her tragic death.
