‘Dangerous’: Democrats Barge Into Speaker Johnson’s Office

On Wednesday, Reps. Judy Chu (D-Calif.) and Gwen Moore (D-Wisc.) confronted House Speaker Mike Johnson over Elon Musk’s team gaining access to a Treasury Department payment system. Their unannounced entry into Johnson’s office occurred after a meeting with Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, who had granted Musk’s team “read-only” access to the system that manages federal disbursements, including tax refunds and Social Security payments. The lawmakers expressed concerns about the security of Americans’ private information. While a witness described their behavior as aggressive, Chu’s spokesperson clarified that the encounter was civil. This incident adds to growing Democratic criticism over Musk’s involvement in government operations, including questions about his security clearance and role as a special government employee.
